REDfINE SUCCESS
By Michael W Rogers
The first thing a potential client looks for when they view your image is your eyes. You have 3 seconds. That's it.
It works like this: a potential client sees your image. In 3 seconds, he looks into your eyes to decide if you trust you. He wants to get a vibe from you, and for this blog, let’s say he trusts you. In 13 seconds, your potential client decides he has already made a decision he is going to buy from you. In 30 seconds, that leaves you 17 seconds left. 17 seconds for you to impress him enough to move to the phase from profile pic to your session with him to discuss you working for him. Making the sale.
If your current image shows you with your arms folded, a busy background, or a suit that went out of style in 2015, a fake smile, you are creating a "Trust Gap." You’re telling the world you don't pay attention to the details. And in high-stakes business, details are everything. Being direct with you isn’t a style choice. It’s a professional obligation. I will tell you things your last photographer never mentioned — about your posture, your wardrobe, your expression, and how the image you think you want may not be the image that gets you where you’re going. But as the adult in the room, I do not live in your world. And you do not live in mine, so the key to success in getting the image you want is communication. It’s a BABY-BOOMER thing. We talk, we get to know each other. Those questions you have will be answered in a manner where you understand the purpose, you understand the goal. We get to understand each other.
I don't just “capture photos." I close that 3-second gap. I'll tell you why that black suit is working against you. I'll tell you why the "impact shot" needs to be tight. I work on your posture. Posture is what kills it every time. I am your coach. And sometimes I tell you things you do not want to hear. That is what a coach does to get the most out of his players, and sometimes they need a kick in the butt to get them there. Why, I am very good at what I do. My background is in media. A combined 37 years of radio and TV. I was a broadcast meteorologist and radio personality, most of my time spent in Alaska, Idaho, & Maryland. I spent over half my life speaking to people, speaking in front of people. I began photography in 2007. I know what I am doing. I love seeing the look on a client’s face when they finally see an image that matches their ambition.
If you want a "nice picture," good. Nice gets you scrolled past. People don’t know exactly who you are, what you do, or why it matters to them. And when that is fuzzy, you, my friend, become optional. If you want a marketing asset that secures more clients and commands authority, let’s talk about it.
Don't book a session. Book a strategy.
